When Love Comes to Town Part 5
Tug of War
Read: Matthew 7:24-27; Matthew 11:28-30
It was the summer following a turbulent seventh grade year and I was miserable. I fought hard against the truth that held me. My foundation in scripture was solid, yet the song the world sang was seducing and strong. A tug-of-war was taking place in my soul. Would I abandon what was right and true, or would I simply relax into Jesus’ arms? My soul cried out for Jesus, yet the world’s seductive song seemed so beautiful. I waffled and swayed depending whether I was with church people or peers. I played a complicated, exhausting game.
One Sunday the pastor said, “If you cannot point to an instance when you gave your life to Christ, chances are you’ve never done it!” I was shocked! I’d been in church my whole life, surely it was something that just happened along the way! On a Thursday evening, following yet another church activity, the truth dawned in an instant. The next moment, I was calling for my mom to come pray with me. She came, we prayed and I was born anew. Game over; Jesus had won! The tug of war stopped; my heart had found its home in the loving arms of Jesus.
Something to Ponder
Are you playing the same exhausting game? The peace you seek is found in Jesus, for He embraced an unhappy teenage girl, and won the tug of war for my soul.
